鉴定描述：本种极易与国产其他环锹区分：大个体雄虫头盾较宽，大鄂仅有一枚基齿或一枚中齿，不同时具有中齿和基齿，头部侧棱更为清晰且位置更偏外侧，前胸背板侧缘的前1/3强烈外凸；雌虫前胸背板远离侧缘的位置有一对纵向的黑色带纹。
Identification. The original description (Thomson 1856) and the later clarification on the type locality (Thomson 1862) make this species to be easily recognizable. This species is the unique Chinese species possessing a single medial tooth behind the subapical tooth on the male mandible .
